what are GeoLock® Wall Anchors
The GeoLock® anchor system permanently stabilizes your foundation wall and, in many cases, can straighten your wall back toward its original position. Heavy-duty earth anchors are embedded in stable soil away from your foundation wall, and are then connected to steel anchors with long, galvanized rods. Once tightened, the anchors will hold the wall securely in its current position without any further adjustment. However, a unique benefit of the system includes the ability to tighten the anchors during dry seasons, meaning you can improve and even completely straighten your walls over time.
What Causes Basement Walls to Bow and Lean?
Hydrostatic Pressure
Hydrostatic Pressure
When soil around your foundation becomes saturated with water, it exerts immense pressure against your basement walls. This force, known as hydrostatic pressure, can exceed the wall’s weight-bearing capacity, causing it to bow inward or crack horizontally.
Expansive Clay Soils
Expansive Clay Soils
Many areas in our region contain clay-rich soil that absorbs water and expands significantly, putting stress on foundation walls. When this soil dries during hot summers, it shrinks and pulls away, creating a cycle of constant pressure and relaxation that weakens the wall over time.
Poor Grading & Drainage
Poor Grading & Drainage
If the ground around your home slopes toward the foundation or if gutters are clogged, water pools directly next to your basement walls. This oversaturation increases the weight of the soil and the hydrostatic pressure acting on the structure, leading to movement and damage.
Frost Heave
Frost Heave
In colder months, moisture trapped in the soil directly next to your foundation walls can freeze and expand. This expansion, known as frost heave, pushes forcefully against the wall, potentially causing it to lean, crack, or bow inward under the added strain.
Large Tree Roots
Large Tree Roots
Trees planted too close to your home can have extensive root systems that grow against the foundation walls. As these roots expand, they can exert concentrated pressure on specific areas of the wall, leading to cracking, bowing, and compromised structural integrity.

Wall Anchor Installation Process
Comprehensive Inspection & Pressure Diagnosis
Customized Repair Plan
Interior and Exterior Preparation
- On the interior, a small, typically 1-inch diameter hole is cored through the foundation wall at each anchor point.
- On the exterior, a minimum 10' excavation (typically 3'x3') is made in the yard, away from the foundation, to bury the earth anchor in stable soil.
Installation of System Components
- The exterior earth anchor is carefully positioned and buried in competent, undisturbed soil.
- A galvanized steel connecting rod is passed through the hole in the foundation wall and securely attached to the earth anchor.
- On the interior, a steel wall plate (or a specialized channel anchor for heavier duty applications) is placed against the foundation wall and connected to the rod.
Wall Stabilization & Initial Straightening
Gradual Straightening (Future Tightening)
Backfill & Site Restoration
Excavated areas outside are backfilled, and any interior work is cleaned up. The site is restored, leaving minimal disruption. Cosmetic repairs to the wall (patching cracks, painting) can be done after the structural repair is complete.

Can GeoLock® Wall Anchors actually straighten my walls?
Will the installation ruin my landscaping or yard?
No, the installation is designed to be low-impact. While we do need to excavate small holes in your yard to place the earth anchors, the disturbance is minimal compared to other methods. We carefully remove and replace sod to leave your lawn looking neat, avoiding the destruction caused by heavy excavation equipment used in total foundation replacement.
